ABOUT ME

I am interested in the intersection between education and student services and outreach. As a first-generation college graduate now working on obtaining a master's degree, I have experienced first hand the unique set of challenges presented to first-generation students trying to navigate through the higher education system. I am passionate about working alongside low socioeconomic and historically underrepresented populations to aid them through their educational journey. I believe education should be attainable for all and advocate for educational equity.

I graduated from California Sate University, Monterey Bay with a bachelors of arts in psychology and a minor in human development. This degree has given me a solid understanding of human behavior and mental processes as well as knowledge of cognitive, emotional, and physical development across the life-span. Previously, I have worked extensively with primary school aged children in academic settings for the Monterrey Peninsula Unified School District and outdoors with Ventana Wildlife Society.

INTERESTS

Environment
I care deeply about the environment and wildlife. I am particularly interested in marine biology and the Monterey National Marine Sanctuary which is home to a wide range of biodiversity and habitats. I also enjoy public education on sustainable issues and what can be done to remedy them.
Advocacy
I am passionate about promoting peace and understanding to my hometown community. I have volunteered with the Monterey Peace and Justice Center and co founded an English-Spanish conversation circle where community members were welcomed to practice their language skills while learning about different cultures.
Visual Arts
Having dedicated over 7 years to visual arts education, I thoroughly love this subject. I have experimented with several mediums from watercolor to acrylic, plaster to wax, as well as pencil to digital. My favorite medium is pencil and paper. Creating aesthetically pleasing work is an enjoyable process for me as I like to pay close attention to detail.
